This week, I co-hosted an online event with the Organization for Social Media Safety for parents on supporting the dangers of the current state of our social scene. There was an overwhelming stream of facts and situations that tweens and teens have to deal with on a daily basis when it comes to the virtual world.
Let's face it, the virtual world is inevitable. We may try to control many things and set all sorts of rules, but our tweens will find a way to technology and the internet. We may not enter a COVID lockdown again (hopefully not!) but it taught us that we, and our children, need to be RESILIENT in the face of an unknown future here. And that means that technology and the virtual world must become something we can integrate and accept in a positive way.
This starts at home.
This is created by modeling.
This is about us taking the time to participate virtually WITH our children.
And make it something fun!
I've been inspired for a long time to create social-EMOTIONAL-media. What if the creators of our social media were programming for emotional wellness? Who would we be as a society if our 3-9 hours a day online were contributing to our personal development and wellness?
I invite the community here to join me in the creation of this newfound way of being online. Be the change with your daughter!
See you at our next monthly circle on Sunday Sept 8, @ 11am
